The US freight industry is a behemoth, generating $1 trillion in annual revenue. Yet, despite its size and importance, it faces significant challenges, particularly for carriers, who are the backbone of the supply chain. As one of the founders of Alvys, I’d like to share some insights into why our company exists and the opportunity we’re pursuing.
One of the most striking aspects of the freight industry is the highly fragmented nature of the carrier market:
This fragmentation means that the industry is dominated by small businesses, each facing its own set of operational challenges.
While technology has revolutionized many industries, the freight carrier sector has been largely overlooked. Tech companies have developed numerous Transportation Management Systems (TMS) for shippers and brokers, but carriers – the most critical node in the supply chain – have been left behind.
These carriers, responsible for actually moving the loads and managing complex assets like trucks, drivers, and trailers, are often relying on outdated tools like Excel spreadsheets and sticky notes to run their operations.
This is where Alvys comes in. We recognize that while certain vertical technologies (like tracking) have been well-developed for the freight industry, there’s a significant gap in operational technology for carriers.
Our mission is to provide carriers with the tools they need to streamline their operations, manage their assets more effectively, and ultimately improve the entire supply chain.
In a world buzzing with excitement about cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence, it’s easy to overlook the massive opportunity right in front of us. By making supply chains more efficient, we can have a tangible, positive impact on day-to-day life for millions of people.
At Alvys, we’re not just building software – we’re working to transform an essential industry that touches every aspect of our lives. By empowering carriers with better technology, we’re helping to create a more efficient, reliable, and sustainable freight ecosystem.
If you’re an engineer, product manager, or passionate about solving real-world problems, consider joining us at Alvys. Together, we can build the tools that will drive the next generation of freight transportation and make a lasting impact on the global supply chain.
